Notes towards a manifesto
of linguistic heresy…

made up of the mechanisms, like the waves, i.e, processes and tendencies in the grammar data to give evidence of the mechanisms, i.e, to infer their existence
etymological definition = spirit of the word; “spirit” in the sense of life THROUGH TIME, i.e, literally, diachrony the specific definitions, the secret to their unity being that they are all metaphoric extensions of the etymological definition
to know your opponent is the sure way to predict the next move in chess, and therefore win Sausure’s conception of language knowable being just like the present state of a chess board is not enough, is not the living essence, spirit, of Language
not graspable, yet you can get the FEEL of it, can experience it - to know this is to know a language from the inside, i.e, to be a living speaker of the living language, to be truly fluent in it the graspable snippets, which are just conceptualization, which are just interpretations; diachrony itself, as a concept, is not true diachrony; the essence of synchrony is that it is a concept, not the known itself
universals particulars/the realm of becoming/illusion/ dream/fantasy
grammar theories = attempts to conceptualize by making the most general and sweeping concepts possible - the most general that can stand without contradicting anything known is the best - but not because it itself is true - as a concept it cannot ever be true - but because as being being the more general, is the most encompassing, and therefore the most universal-like, and hence the most truth-like; this theory can only ever be figurative the “sweepingness” of the theory must “scoop up” the most data/partiuclars to be the most truth-like; this is the process of inferring the diachrony from the synchronic bits, i.e, an attempt to overcome the conceptual by means of making a more open concept
cannot be grasped/conceptualized, but can be gotten the feel of, known through getting in touch with something from the unconscious, intuition synchrony = conceptualization, and thus only an interpretation of the part of a gigantic unknown whole
prescriptive grammar is an IMPOSITION on the inner living organism of language, with a conceptualization of what must be imposed in something being concept, that’s alive, and comes from something broader than consciousness, from behind it, from the source of words... the mind.
